ALLIANCE OLDTIMERS BASEBALL

Alliance Oldtimers Baseball brings the fun and experience of baseball to approximately 350 children ages 4 to 15 in the Box Butte County area. No child is turned away from the program for lack of registration funds. The goal is to provide a wholesome summer activity that teaches the fundamentals of teamwork and sportsmanship.

ALLIANCE PARK FOUNDATION

The Alliance Park Foundation raises and provides funds for the preservation and maintenance of the City of Alliance Park system.  The park foundation also holds an annual “Fountain Festival” which celebrates the City’s beautiful parks.  The UW funds will help underwrite the Fountain Festival.

EAST POINT HORSPICE

East Point Horspice is a therapeutic riding program open to all ages.  In addition, this program also rescues and rehabilitates horses from abuse and neglect.  Through education, care rehabilitation and therapy both the humans and horses lives are improved and enriched.  UW funds will be used for general operations.

CAPSTONE (ALLIANCE SATELLITE OFFICE)

CAPstone provides advocacy and support to victims and their families of child abuse and neglect. CAPstone’s main office is in Scottsbluff, but is developing a satellite office in Alliance. The UW monies will go towards providing supplies for the Alliance satellite office.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF BOX BUTTE COUNTY

Habitat for Humanity has completed two houses in Box Butte County. There are approximately 1200 household living at or below the poverty line in Box Butte County. The goal for Habitat is to eliminate this situation one family at a time. All UW funding will be used to purchase supplies.

HUMAN SERVICES

Human Services provides short term residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, community support, detox supervision, and support, evaluation and referral for those who have had or are presently experiencing difficulties related to substance abuse/addiction/lifestyle problems, and/or his or her family or significant others.  UW funds will help with general operating expenses.

KEEP ALLIANCE BEAUTIFUL, INC.

Keep Alliance Beautiful is the only agency in Box Butte County concerned primarily with environmental issues. KAB runs the community recycling program conducts litter clean-ups and educates citizens though contests, newspaper articles and cleanup activities. The UW funds are used primarily for education.

RESPITE PROGRAM

The Respite Program, which is run by Western Community Health Resources, collaborates with communities in the provision of quality health and human services.  Respite offers relief for family caregivers caring for someone whose disability requires ongoing continuous care.  A relief caregiver allows the family caregiver to go out of the house and shop, run errands and be relieved of their duties for a while.  The UW funds will allow families in BBC to have 8 hours per month of respite at no cost.

SALVATION ARMY

The Salvation Army is dedicated to helping needy men, women and children. They may help pay a gas bill in the winter or provide fans in the summer. The Salvation Army is always on the lookout to help those in need. The services in Box Butte County are run completely by volunteers. The UW funds will be used to help the Salvation Army provided assistance as needed.

SENIOR SERVICES, INC.

Senior Services Inc. provides services for residents aged 60 and over. The mission is to provide opportunities for seniors to feel empowered, valued and independent. The center provides low cost nutritional meals five days per week. The center also houses the Handi Bus office and the Handy Man service. The RSVP program which coordinates senior volunteers is also housed at the center. The center is over 30 years old and the UW funds will be used for winter heating bills.

SENIOR SERVICES, INC., HANDYMAN PROGRAM

The Handyman program helps seniors stay in their own home longer, by helping provide supportive services such as housekeeping, yard mowing, snow removal, and minor repairs.  The seniors are billed on a sliding scale according to their ability to pay.  The UW monies will help more seniors receive this service.

TEAMMATES MENTORING PROGRAM OF BOX BUTTE COUNTY


The TeamMates program, founded by Tom and Nancy Osborne, is designed to help youth to reach their full potential. There were 19 mentor/mentee partnerships in 2008/200. The students are at risk and the weekly TeamMate interaction may be the 9fference between success and failure in school. The UW funds will be used to help defray costs associated with education and recreational activities.

YMCA

The Alliance Area YMCA is well known for the community support, volunteers and professional staff that help all citizens.  The YMCA strives to teach character values of respect, responsibility, caring and honesty.  The YMCA will concentrate on youth basketball programs that will be inclusive of boys and girls at all ages with the money they receive from United Way.
